We want to hear from YOU. What has you concerned with the way the season is going? What important things are you taking away from this season? We want to hear your thoughts!
On a scale of 0-5 (0 being ‘I don’t even know our record’ and 5 being ‘I can tell you where we rank in every statistical category’ how engaged have you been this year?
What are your general thoughts on the season? Concerns on offense/defense? How do we turn this slow conference start around?
What’s your outlook? Best case for this year/the near future?
2 for all. If it wasn't for you all at the Norse Report, I'm afraid I'd be less engaged than I am. Being at the games, being a part of the section 110 family, being a NKU alum and being a lifelong NKY resident are all things that keep me interested in the Norse. Not being able to go has greatly impacted my feelings on the season. I feel a bit lost without the "live action" and it's weird trying to watch at home alone. Watching at home makes me feel further isolated and a bit depressed therefore it's been an easier choice not to watch. [It's also been odd as our Sling TV feed for ESPN has been lousy a large percentage of the time and the picture gets blurry].
But I need (and my girls need) the friendly smiles, the handshakes, the jokes and laughter at BB&T - we need you and the other fans in person. I need the Gjallarhorn to get my Norse spirits up - and unfortunately, it's not happening this year. :(
1) 3 - I like the effort but we've dropped mightily from last year, need more to step up and it hasnt happened yet.
2) Offense has no flow, too many 1-on-5 "im taking it to the hoop no matter what". Defense letting to many plays just happen. Louden Love is gonna whoop this team badly. Need more movement off the ball and no standing around the 3-pt line! Need more lockdown defense!
3) Boehm hopefully keeps improving, Faulkner needs to let the game come to him, hes overworking. Nelson just keep on rebounding!
1- 3/4 I have watched pretty much every minute of games this year, but what I haven't as in years past is know the back stories of our players. Also, honestly don't know many other players in the league where in the past I at least knew the better players on each HL team.
2- I knew that this would be a rebuilding year with all of the youth that are playing key minutes every game. I thought that we would have been a strong mid pack team and wouldn't have thought we would lose both to IUPUI and the other "bad" teams in conference. My big concern on offense is that even if they are down a few points they always jack up a 3, I know im old school when it comes to offense but I dont think we are good enough there to rely on the 3 every game. ON defense I just think that they need to come together.
3- The rest of the year they should continue to gel as a team and be mid pack by tournament time steal a few games and fall in the semis. That should earn them a CIT bid(if there is one). With only 1 graduating SR. next year they should be good enough to be a top 3 team in the league and be in discussion for a share of the conference or tournament champs. I just hope that this slow start doesn't effect recruiting too negatively. A couple big men coming in could make this team scary good.
(1) 4. Watched every game that was available. NKU lacking on 3 point FG% and FT% compared to previous years. Also not defending the 3 as well.
(2) Growing pains and basically no 4 year Seniors makes for a long season.
(3) This year will come down to the Conference tourney and there won't be any NIT or CBIT most likely so limited post-season chances. Next year.............If (big IF) everyone returns and with the Frosh coming in NKU should return to being at the top of the conference. As with any college B-ball team who stays and who leaves will be crucial. Back to the BB&T Home Court advantage and good bye to playing back to back games.
(2) Going into the season my expectations were tempered because we lost so much production and we were going to be a young team. So the record isn’t shocking. Definitely thought we’d be relying more heavily on Eleeda, Harding and Hines, but instead our Freshmen have been asked to step up and they’ve been great. Really encouraging long term, but no surprise this year has been up and down.
Speaking of down, that’s the direction you have to scroll to find our 3pt% ranking. We’re shooting 27.5% - that’s 328th out of 347 teams, and dead last in the Horizon. Have to fix that to have any hope of making another NCAA tournament.
(3) I think we finish around the middle of the league standings. Best case is we get hot (and lucky) and make the tournament again. Regardless, the future is bright. Our Freshmen are getting valuable mins and actually looking really good. Not sure how eligibility works with covid, but we’re getting at least another year of Faulkner Langdon and Nelson. The two kids coming next year look like they have massive upside potential. Gonna have a team full of wings though, would be great to land a rim protector.
Super glad you tied in the positives in at the end Chris, I was getting depressed reading this!! Lol.
In all seriousness, it's very easy to get depressed/frustrated/angry/etc. during most of these games. Perspective is the most important thing in a season like this, and unfortunately perspective does not come immediately following a game, it usually takes some time to get there.
2 - Separation. The teams seems to play everyone close and we haven't seen a game where we click for both halfs. Miscues and cold stretches are to be expected with a team that is still learning how to play with one another and that is still learning who the alpha is.
3. If this core of three (or more if you count the redshirts) freshmen stays together, this group has the potential to be the highest tournament seed for NKU and is likely well suited to win a game at the big dance.
3. This year is rough all around. No one really knows how everything has effected each individual & it’s ever-changing. From the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic & if they’ll play or cancel games & the pandemic itself, to the injustices, politics, etc., that’s for coaches & players. the outlook is taking a young team & molding them, building them up into a winner bc we’ve seen the prices are there. When the light comes on, the squad can/will be dangerous!
Man those are all good points! We raised those questions on the "Last Call" episode we did this week, inconsistency is impacting the fans' interest, and it's also impacting the product on the court - which ALSO impacts the fans' interest.
3. This is a lost season. Not just for nku but the sport as a whole. Nothing is normal and it should have an asterisk. I think the future is bright. Lots of young talent
I hear ya, Mat. I've been hesitant to call it a "lost" season, per se just because something about it doesn't feel right. These kids, coaches, staff, they're all workin their asses off tbring us some basketball, and it just feels really weird - but I do understand what you mean.
Tons of young talent on this team, you are correct there!
Circling back here - I bet some of you all are feeling ALOT better now after that 4-0 stretch than you were two weeks ago!

Great point on #2 Jeff... Hell we are seeing that RIGHT NOW during the Robert Morris game as we speak. We just CANNOT put anyone away.
